World leaders from 10 countries declare support for peace on the Korean Peninsula... World Summit 2022 adopts the Korean Peninsula Declaration

The Korean Peninsula Peace Summit Organizing Committee (Co-Chairs: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, 8th UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon) announced on the 14th that they held the 'Korean Peninsula Peace Summit' event online at the HJ Global Art Center in Gyeonggi-do on the morning of the 13th.

The event, held from the 11th to the 13th as part of the 'World Summit 2022', was attended by current and former heads of state, speakers and vice speakers of the National Assembly, members of the National Assembly, ministers, women and youth leaders, etc. from 157 countries that have established diplomatic relations between South and North Korea, and was simultaneously interpreted in 16 languages for overseas attendees.

Co-chairman of the Organizing Committee, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, said in his welcoming address, “The world needs multilateral partnerships, and only through constructive dialogue and strong will can we move toward a sustainable future by taking courageous steps forward.” “Let us make a sustainable and peaceful world through joint efforts at World Summit 2022.” Co-chairman of the Organizing Committee, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, also gave a keynote speech, saying, “The Korean Peninsula is one country, one culture, and one people. Recognizing that two political systems coexist, I propose that politics coexist peacefully.” He emphasized that the Korean Peninsula is one, saying, “Korea may have a divided territory, but its people are not, and a common bloodline cannot be divided like a border.”

This was followed by keynote speeches by more than 10 world leaders supporting the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula, including former U.S. President Donald Trump and former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. President Trump said, “In order for North Korea to actively cooperate, unify, and develop economically, there must be no threat of nuclear weapons, and for North Korea, denuclearization is not a serious danger but the best opportunity.” He expressed his support for peace on the Korean Peninsula, saying, “Please join us in our efforts and prayers for a Korean Peninsula that will achieve safety, prosperity, unity, and finally peace.”

This World Summit 2022 Seoul Declaration was selected by gathering the opinions of 85 current and former leaders from 70 countries out of 157 countries with which South and North Korea have established diplomatic relations, with the goal of a new unified Korea.

The declaration, signed and adopted by former and current leaders, contains the vision of a one-platform plan for the New Unified Korea Project and all-out cooperation to ensure that the divided South and North pursue peaceful unification under one territory, one culture, and one people, and is scheduled to be sent to the leaders of 157 countries after the Korean Peninsula Peace Summit.
